Basic but never boring – The making of our Basic Rules Collection by Brinani
Hi Uschi! Tell us, what did you always dream of as a child? Maybe you wanted to fly to the moon or become famous? Or maybe you simply wanted to live on a tropical island surrounded by the sea. Sabrina – or, as you probably know her, Brinani – always had a dream too, and now it has finally come true. Having grown up in the countryside, she was always drawn to the sparkle and possibilities of big cities like New York. To her, they were a symbol of something big, and that’s exactly what she wanted: to create something big that was entirely her own.
Today, Sabrina holds her “something big” in her hands and can proudly look at what has come to life after a long time, lots of heart and soul, and countless sleepless nights: her very first jewelry collection, the Basic Rules Collection by Brinani! Of course, a lot happened before the launch finally came around, and we want to tell you what handcuffs and doppelgängers have to do with it – and how we all nearly lost our minds over a single necklace.
Who is Sabrina Nickel?
But first things first: who is Sabrina? Known as Brinani on Instagram, she’s the one who lovingly calls her followers “Uschi” and shares the best fashion tips and tricks. She never misses a trend, yet she always knows what suits her and what doesn’t, which makes her the perfect fashion guru.
Before taking off on social media, Sabrina worked as a presenter. Today, she runs her own social media agency, SOS (Save our Socials), together with her brother. When she’s not working, you’ll most likely find her on her surfboard, working out or traveling the world. We have no idea how she juggles it all, but for Sabrina, nothing seems impossible!
What makes Sabrina truly special, though, is her authenticity and her incredible sense for making every trend her own without losing sight of her personal style. She only shows her community things she 100% loves, and her creative mind keeps coming up with fresh perspectives and ideas that she’s always happy to share. So it’s no surprise that we decided to work together.
The thing with the doppelganger
How it all came about is actually pretty funny, because at first we thought we’d found the doppelgänger of Sarah (our colleague from the events team). The two of them could practically be twins! It must have been fate, because after that, Sabrina’s content kept popping up in our feeds more and more, and eventually we got in touch. That was in June 2025, and ever since, she’s been an indispensable LUA Girl.
Her authentic, humorous, and incredibly ambitious personality won us over just as it did her followers, and at LUAMAYA, we can’t imagine not having Sabrina as a partner anymore. In the end, it was only a matter of time before we sat down together to work on her first jewelry collection – and she’s the best person to tell you just how much of herself she’s put into this project.
We asked, Sabrina answered: everything about the Basic Rules Collection by Brinani
How would Sabrina describe her collection in three words?
“Bold. Clean. Strong.”
And where did the inspiration come from?
“I love everything urban – and above all, imperfect perfection. I LOVE symmetry, but I love deliberate asymmetry in the details even more. For me, that’s exactly what creates tension.
You can see that in the way I wear jewelry, too: you’ll almost never find the same piece twice on my ears, and when I layer necklaces, I combine different pendants. For me, that’s exactly where personality, individual style and character begin.
That’s why the collection is intentionally timeless and modular. The pieces form the foundation – including for jewelry you already love. And you can build on that: combine, stack, layer, mix. Basic Rules sets the foundation. What you make of it is your own style.”
What should the community feel when they hold the pieces in their hands?
“You feel dressed, not decorated. Jewelry gets on my nerves when it’s too dainty, too intricate or too playful. To me, that quickly looks tacky – and the moment everything gets tangled up, knotted and chaotic, I’m out.
I wanted pieces that bring clarity to a look. You put on a basic white top, add your jewelry and think: Now I’m fully dressed. Now my basic outfit looks intentional.”
We love every piece in the collection and the way they all work together, but which piece is Sabrina’s personal shine moment?
“The Signature Y-Necklace. Because it does something that, for me, very few pieces of jewelry manage to do: it’s an absolute basic and a statement piece at the same time. Depending on how I wear and style it, it transforms an entire look – without being complicated itself.”
And how does she style her pieces for an instant glow?
“My perfect look would be a white top with an asymmetrical cut, paired with black pants with a modern, distinctive cut – minimal, but never random.
And when it comes to jewelry, that’s where things really get going: at the moment, I love bi-color most, mixing gold and silver. At least two or three layered necklaces, three different hoops in a row plus an ear cuff as ear candy, and at least three rings on each hand. The outfit stays clean. The jewelry is what makes it my look.”
At least three rings on each hand – we love it! When we asked Sabrina about the moment she first held her collection in her hands, things got emotional:
“I cried right away. Even today, it’s sometimes hard for me to grasp that I was actually able to make this dream come true. That little girl who grew up in the countryside, always dreamed big and was drawn to the sparkle and possibilities of big cities like New York even back then – she just went and did it.
And of course, I hope lots of people will love the collection just as much. But even if they don’t: I made this jewelry especially for myself, too. Because this exact style was missing from my own jewelry collection.”
You did it, Sabrina, and we’re so incredibly proud that we got to be part of it!
Sleepless nights, lots of samples & a pair of handcuffs
Behind the scenes, there was lots of heart and even more laughter. Only one necklace really put our nerves to the test: the Basic Rules Necklace.
“That one probably cost all of us a few years of our lives and plenty of sleepless nights. It feels like we scrapped it and started over 2,304 times. The problem was precisely what defines the entire collection: it was either too perfect or too wild. We had to hit exactly that sweet spot in between.
And now, of all pieces, this one is the best proof for me of how perfect imperfection can be.”
You could tell just how much heart Sabrina had put into this project the moment we reviewed the samples. She was so genuinely excited about every single piece that it rubbed off on all of us. And when we were shooting the announcement video, handcuffs came into play. Beforehand, Fabienne from our influencer marketing team had studied exactly how to unlock them (about 100 times). Did it work on the first try? Nope! But in that moment, it was so funny that none of us could stop laughing, and after that, nothing else mattered anyway. All in all, the whole process was an incredible experience, and if it results in such a unique collection every time, we’d probably all happily give up a few more nights and years of our lives.
